Salary Converter
Comparing a freelance hourly rate with a salaried offer means putting both on the same scale. Enter one figure, say how many hours and days you actually work, and read the equivalent in every other period.
How to use it
- Enter the amount and choose the period it covers.
- Adjust hours per day, days per week and paid weeks per year to match your situation.
- Read the yearly, monthly, weekly, daily and hourly equivalents.
Examples
- 25 per hour, 8h × 5d × 52w → 52,000 a year, about 4,333 a month.
- 60,000 a year on the same schedule → about 28.85 an hour.
- Freelancing 46 billable weeks instead of 52: the same annual target needs roughly 13% more per hour.
Questions people ask
Is this gross or net pay?
Gross. Income tax, social contributions and any deductions vary by country and personal situation, so nothing is withheld here. Use your local tax tables on the annual figure to reach take-home pay.
What should a freelancer put for weeks per year?
Fewer than 52. Take out holiday, sick days and unpaid time spent on admin and finding work — many independents bill 44 to 46 weeks. Lowering that box raises the hourly rate needed to reach the same annual income, which is the point of the comparison.
