Days Between Dates
Counting days by hand goes wrong at month ends and leap years, and the answer changes depending on whether the last day counts. This tool gives the plain difference, the same figure in weeks, and how many of those days are Monday to Friday.
How to use it
- Set the start date and the end date in any order.
- Tick the box if the final day should be included, as it usually is for stays and notice periods.
- Read total days, weeks, working days and weekend days.
Examples
- 1 Jan to 31 Dec in a normal year → 364 days, or 365 with the end day included.
- Hotel nights: leave the box unticked. A stay from the 3rd to the 7th is 4 nights.
- Deadlines: tick the box. A 30-day period starting today ends on day 30, not day 31.
Questions people ask
Are public holidays removed from the working days?
No. Holidays differ by country, region and year, so the working-day figure here removes Saturdays and Sundays only. Subtract the holidays that apply where you are to get the final number.
Why does the result change by one when I tick the box?
Because you are choosing between measuring an interval and counting items. From Monday to Friday there are four days of distance but five days on the calendar. Contracts and rental terms usually mean the second, so tick the box for them.
