Fuel Cost Calculator
Before a long drive it helps to know what the tank will cost. Enter the distance, how many kilometres your car gets per litre and the pump price, and the tool returns the fuel bill, the litres needed and a fair split per passenger.
How to use it
- Enter the round-trip distance in kilometres.
- Enter your car's real-world consumption in km per litre and the current fuel price.
- Set how many people are sharing and read the total and the share each.
Examples
- 450 km at 12 km/L, price 6.20 → about 37.5 litres and 232.50 in fuel.
- Four people sharing that trip pay about 58 each.
- A car doing 9 km/L on the same route costs roughly 78 more — worth knowing before choosing which car goes.
Questions people ask
My car is rated in litres per 100 km. What do I enter?
Divide 100 by that figure. A car using 8 L/100 km does 12.5 km per litre. If you have miles per gallon instead, multiply US mpg by 0.425 to get km per litre.
Why is my real cost higher than the estimate?
Manufacturer consumption figures come from controlled tests. City traffic, air conditioning, roof racks, tyre pressure, load and a heavy right foot all push real consumption up, often by 10 to 20 per cent. Use a figure measured from your own fill-ups for the closest answer.
