Three percentage questions come up constantly: how much is a share of a total, what slice one number represents, and how much something grew or fell. This calculator answers all three with the same two boxes, and shows the arithmetic under the result so you can check it.
How to use it

Examples
- 15% of 200 → 30. A 15% deposit on a 200 order.
- 45 is what % of 180 → 25%. Forty-five marks out of 180.
- From 120 to 150 → +25% increase; from 150 back to 120 is −20%, not −25%.
Questions people ask
Why is a rise of 25% not cancelled by a fall of 25%?
Because each percentage is measured against a different starting point. Going from 120 to 150 adds 30 to a base of 120, which is 25%. Coming back subtracts 30 from a base of 150, which is only 20%. Percentage change is never symmetric.
What is the difference between percent and percentage points?
Percent is relative, percentage points are absolute. If a rate moves from 4% to 6%, that is a rise of 2 percentage points but a 50% increase in the rate itself. Financial and election reporting uses both, so the wording matters.
